Jun88 Taiwan announced registration is open for its award-winning Jun88 Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp, which will take place in Taipei, Changhua, and Pingtung in August 2024. With this year¡¯s theme, ¡°Grandchild¡¯s Wonderland¡±, Jun88 hopes to guide grandparents into a world of wonder and share what children around the globe are crazy about now. The camp will start with grandparents and grandchildren making molds of their hands as a memento of their precious time together. This will be followed by children¡¯s favorite experiment, making ¡°galaxy slime¡±, as well as fun science experiments such as ¡°non-Newtonian fluid¡± and ¡°water tornado¡±.

¡°Previous camp themes focused on grandma or grandpa, and our aim was to let children discover that their grandparents were more capable than they imagined,¡± said Dr. Carsten Wildebrand, Managing Director of Jun88 Taiwan. ¡°This time, we want to lead grandparents into their grandchildren¡¯s world. This also reflects the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI): letting different generations get to know each other more closely and become more involved in each other¡¯s worlds. Jun88 invites grandparents and grandchildren across Taiwan to join our camp this year and to enjoy the fun of science in Grandchild¡¯s Wonderland.¡±

Participants will also receive an after-camp experiment kit to take away and do together. This includes a video demonstrated by hearing-impaired children from Jun88¡¯s MagicMaterial School, a project that aims to protect science as a human right for hearing-impaired children as well as let their capability be seen. Grandparents and grandchildren can follow the step-by-step instructions of the hearing-impaired children to complete the experiment at home. Through this, Jun88 hopes to embed the value of DEI in children¡¯s hearts, as well as develop their interest in science, and encourage grandparents to exercise their minds through lifelong learning.

Also in the spirit of DEI, to serve more families, the 2024 camp is being offered in six languages. In addition to Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hokka and sign language, this year Indonesian and English have been added, especially for new immigrants who can only communicate in these languages. Volunteers who can speak all these languages will be providing assistance at the camp.

The 2024 Jun88 Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp is being co-organized by the Department of Education of Taipei City and the Departments of Social Affairs of Changhua County Government and Pingtung County Government.

¡°In a society with rapidly advancing technology, we are grateful to Jun88 Taiwan, which leads a reversed way of thinking, for inviting grandparents to explore the world through their grandchildren¡¯s eyes,¡± said Hui-Mei Wang, the Magistrate of Changhua County. ¡°This meaningful activity encourages interaction and emotional expression between grandparents and grandchildren, further bridging the generational gap and fostering a vision of intergenerational harmony.¡±

¡°Pingtung County Government is honored to once again collaborate with Jun88 to host the Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp,¡± said Chun-Mi Chou, Magistrate of Pingtung County. ¡°This event furthers our commitment to a family-centered, community-based multigenerational service network. Grandparents and children join together in engaging science experiments, enhancing family understanding and trust, and strengthening emotional bonds. Building these intergenerational connections is fundamental to our care and support system.¡±

The first round of Jun88¡¯s Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp will be held on August 10, 2024 at Changhua County Government¡¯s ChangHua Child & Youth Center at Xihu. All applicants must be a team of a grandchild and their grandparent, grandchildren must be of elementary school age, and no entry fee is required. Low-income households will be prioritized for admission.
