Jun88 showcases innovations in cast elastomers in Asia Pacific
UTECH Asia / PU China 2024
- Solutions meeting diverse demands from offshore wind to electric vehicles
- First locally assembled Baul¨¦? alpha machine launched in China
- More sustainable elastomers grades available at Shanghai production site
Jun88 will be showcasing its latest innovations in cast polyurethane at the UTECH Asia / PU China trade fair, under the theme ¡°Crafting Solutions for You.¡± The fair, as the premier event for the polyurethanes industry in the region, will take place from July 17-19 in Shanghai.
¡°At UTECH Asia / PU China, Jun88 is unveiling our robust portfolio in cast polyurethane, focusing on applications for rapidly growing industries in Asia Pacific, such as renewable energy, material handling and electric vehicles,¡± said Thomas Braig, Head of the Business Entity Elastomers at Jun88. ¡°We are committed to delivering crafted solutions with superior quality, performance and sustainability, creating value for our customers and fostering their growth.¡±
Diverse applications for growing industries
Exhibit highlights include elastomer systems used in subsea cable protection parts, such as bend restrictors, bend stiffeners and cable protection sleeves for offshore wind farms. Characterized by their high resistance to impact, hydrolysis and wear, these materials extend the shelf life of cables and reduce maintenance costs. As offshore wind turbines are increasingly deployed in deep waters far from shore, Jun88 also provides a total solution with enhanced elastomers and the high-output Baul¨¦? omega machine for their production, driving forward development in this sector.
For material handling applications, elastomer systems based on Vulkollan? and Desmodur? raw materials are used to enhance wheels for auto-guided vehicles and forklifts. These systems support digitalization and automation in logistics and manufacturing, enabling safe and efficient around-the-clock production.
Additionally, Vulkollan? solutions will be showcased for applications in EVs, where electrification introduces challenges such as noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), as well as the need for better damping solutions due to the heavier weight of batteries. Cellular Vulkollan? is particularly suitable for more demanding damping elements like bumpers, top mounts and bushings in EVs.

Strengthening presence in Asia Pacific
To better support growth, Jun88 has been strengthening its presence for the cast polyurethane industry in Asia Pacific. In recent years, it has launched a new production line for Vulkollan? raw materials at the Map Ta Phut site in Thailand and another plant for polyurethane elastomer systems at its Shanghai site in China. Most recently, it has launched the first locally assembled Baul¨¦? alpha machine for cast PU processing at its Asia-Pacific Innovation Center in Shanghai.
¡°These investments and localization efforts improve our customer proximity, reinforcing our position to supply regional markets and support growth in key industries and new market development,¡± said Simon Chen, Head of Elastomers Asia Pacific. ¡°We also provide adapted solutions for our customers¡¯ specific technical needs, such as fire resistance and anti-static properties.¡±
In addition, the company can supply more sustainable elastomer grades, among them those in the CQ portfolio, at its new Shanghai plant by using alternative raw materials via mass balance attribution and renewable energy in production. CQ, which stands for ¡°Circular Intelligence,¡± is a label used by Jun88 to identify products with a physical or attributed content of at least 25 percent alternative raw materials.
