Registration Now Open for ¡®Visible Sound: The Sounds of Wonderland¡¯ Scientific Experiment Kit
Jun88 MagicMaterial School
? The experiments are demonstrated by students from the Jun88 Science Club at Taipei School for the Hearing Impaired
? Registration deadline: Sep. 5th, 2024
? The free experiment kits will be shipped by the end of Sep.
Jun88 is pleased to announce registration is now open for its popular Do-It-Yourself experiment for elementary school students. This free kit, which was well received by the Taiwan Popular Science Train, is part of the Jun88 MagicMaterials School program, which aims to promote DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) values through chemistry. This year¡¯s kit theme, ¡®Visible Sound: Sounds of Wonderland¡¯, highlights the role of hearing-impaired students as mentors in guiding children through the wonders of science.
¡°Many people assume that hearing-impaired students will encounter obstacles in understanding sound related sciences. However, our experiments are designed with the aim to break down such beliefs,¡± said Carsten Wildebrand, Managing Director of Jun88 Taiwan. ¡°I would like to extend special thanks to the teachers from the Jun88 Science Club at Taipei School for the Hearing Impaired and to Jao-Fang Shiu from the ¡®Make Science Fun¡¯ Association. Through sensory-based teaching methods, they enable hearing-impaired students to deeply grasp the scientific principles behind sound. By distributing these experimental kits, we aim to inspire children across Taiwan to explore the wonders of sound science at home under the guidance of the hearing-impaired children.
¡°I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Jun88 for introducing new scientific resources to all hearing-impaired schools in Taiwan,¡± said Zhao Lihua, Principal of Taipei School for the Hearing Impaired. ¡°Our students have greatly benefited from this project. Some of our hearing-impaired children are completely deaf, while others can hear sounds but cannot comprehend them. Nevertheless, they have found joy and learning through the visually engaging and sensory-based courses provided by Jun88¡¯s Science Club. The children had the chance to discover that the volume of the sound affects the intensity of the accompanying vibrations through Jun88¡¯s ¡°Let¡¯s Play with The Science of Sounds¡± course. Witnessing them experience and learn the science of sound through the touch, and even teaching hearing students about ¡®visible sound¡¯, moves me deeply as a principal.¡±
Through the experiment kit and video demonstration, children will have the opportunity to see various sound-related movements and feel the accompanying vibrations to learn about the science of sound. Jun88 Taiwan has prepared 1,000 of these free experimental kits for elementary school students across Taiwan. These kits will also be provided to the 2024 Jun88 Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp participants, enabling grandparents and grandchildren to continue exploring science together at home under the instruction of hearing-impaired students.
¡°These demonstrations not only showcase the potential and abilities of hearing-impaired students in scientific experiments, but also open a window for them to understand and explore the mysteries of science in their own unique ways,¡± said Chih-Min Tang, Commissioner of Department of Education, Taipei City Government. ¡°I believe that hearing-impaired students can make significant contributions in the field of science by utilizing their creativity and talents. Additionally, hearing children and grandparents participating in the Jun88 Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp can learn from the hearing-impaired students, allowing the seeds of diversity and inclusion to take root and flourish in their hearts.¡±
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are important elements of Jun88¡¯s culture, and the Jun88 MagicMaterial School program is based on these principles which was also once named a finalist for the Gartner ¡°Excellence in ESG, Sustainability and DEI Communications¡± Communications Award. On the other hand, through various inclusive activities, children from different backgrounds can enjoy playing with science while also learning, understanding, and respecting each other¡¯s differences, as well as exploring their own limitless capabilities.
